Phins Phocus - A Miami Dolphins Blog
Something that has been eating at me since week one is the illusion that everyone notices on the sidelines.
I see Brian Daboll calling the plays with a play card and a headset.
I notice Tony Sparano with a headset and play card. (Could be ordering a post game meal or making reservations at Shula's).
I am so confused by this idea that Tony is calling the plays. Why? Because when Tony signed his extension and was given vote of confidence (#1) and mandated to provide a dynamic offense, much of the South Florida media alluded to the fact that Tony was no longer the play caller, but that the coaches would coach.
Is Daboll calling all of the offensive plays? Is Daboll talking to the QB (Henne before injury and now Moore).
What the heck is going on? If you are a fan of sideline behavior as I am, watch for this interesting idea to take shape.
I am under the impression that Tony calls the O-Line calls only to the QB and then Daboll chimes in with the play. (I know this contradicts the idea that the QB makes this call, but I need to see if this is true...it's a conspiracy.)
It seems like a crazy game of telephone where the message starts out clear and then loses clarity when the last person delivers the message.
If Tony does call the plays for the O-Line then Columbo et. al must be confused as heck by the time it gets to them.
If Daboll calls the plays for the QB, then that play is getting changed and thus the usual first quarter and third quarter unecessary time outs.
I am going to go out on a limb here...This is a major flaw of this team in terms of coaching. Two men are calling the plays.
A true model of coaching an offense should be a coach that calls the plays, dictates the tempo, and knows the line calls.
So, what does Tony do?
What do you think?
Feel free to opine regarding this observation of sideline play calling.
Ouch. I feel like I have been kicked in the stomach 8 times. Why 8? Because my beloved Dolphins have lost 8 in a row dating back to December of last year.
So far, there is no help in sight with the way in which the Dolphins lose.
Dolphins seem so close, but so far, they are proving to be a bumbling franchise with need and hope for a savior. (Hence the Andrew Luck talk)
You can look back on the string of losses that led to this 8 game losing streak and realize that the worst lost was the first one. The Dolphins are like an alcoholic in that the first drink is the worst one. After that, losing becomes somewhat a natural part of the routine as does the daily drink.
To train hard during the week and then end it with a loss and hear fans that want to go crazy because the Dolphins are losing and while other teams like the 49ers, Bengals, and Titans appear to have the recipe for success is not enjoyable, but it's a routine.
Looking back on that loss to the Browns in December 2010, you see the emergence of Chad Henne as scared quarterback in clutch moments. (2 losses decided by final drive INTs against the Browns). A defense that’s best play is in the first game in the season when Jared Odrick ran into Wes Welker and the ball was suddenly his.
I can’t say that the Dolphins aren’t trying. They are just very inconsistent and haven’t yet mastered the art of playing 60 minutes.
So, here’s what I propose, the Dolphins need to go to their dojo, train for every opponent and look for their weaknesses. They need to find a way to exude peace, harmony, and tranquility with eachother and stop pointing fingers. They need to look in the mirror and realize that they are in this heap of losing together…
But of course, it will take more than playing better to avoid sinking deeper into infamy as a losing franchise.
Go Phins!
-Michael Serrania
Due to the depression the Dolphins play, and my new venture into Bloguin’s newest project NFL blog Any Given Sunday, I haven’t been able to give Phins Phocus my undivided attention. We pride ourselves here at Phins Phocus at giving you a unique look at the Phins. That being said like I said in my last post I expect to be more active blogging once or twice a week but recently we just signed a new blogger Michael Serrania or as some of you from twitter might know him @DolphinMick
Michael is a educated Dolphins fan like most of going through the lul’s of this season but wanted a chance to spread his voice and opinions on the phins to the public.
So give Mick a warm welcome to Phins Phocus, I am sure he is excited to inform you guys of all he has to offer.
Till later folks,
Daniel

Sorry for the delay between articles, I have been writing for Any Given Sunday, bloguins feature NFL blog and it has been tough to write about the Phins these days. That being said we will make a greater effort to get more prime time articles out for you to read.
The morning after a brutal loss in front of a national audience against our bitter rivals leaves the Phins in serious trouble. With the season seemingly over at 0-5, the argument to SuckForLuck becomes more realistic each week.
The Dolphins defense which was once thought of to be one of the best 5 in the league has yet to show up this season and the Dolphins offense has regain its anaemic form of a season ago.
Matt Moore did not take very long to prove he does not have what it takes to be considered as a potential starting moving forward. However Moore did look like he will be able to potentially lead this team to the number 1 pick like he did a year ago in Carolina.
According to Armando, Dolphins beat writer, The Dolphins have reached out to Eric Magini to become an informal football consultant, this makes me think twice about Irelands job security.
It is obvious that Tony Sparano will not be here next year as the owner Ross already said he wants a proven superstar head coach.
It’s not easy being a Dolphins fan right now, as the Dolphins are back to 07 form being the joke of the league and we still got 11 games to go, so sit back and enjoy the race to #SuckForLuck.
That all for now, look forward to bringing more insight shortly

no commentsSitting down on a nice comfy chair relaxing and trying to keep my cool as I realize how big of a hole the Dolphins are in at 0-4. That being said it is the bye week, time to regroup and reenergize. There is a lot of work to be done during this bye week so I decide to make a list and maybe help out the Dolphins coaching staff.
Things the Dolphins need to do during the bye week:
1) Figure out how to use Reggie Bush
Let’s face it the Dolphins are 0-4 and many fans are dejected, if the Dolphins aren’t going to be winning games at least they can try and be more entertaining and flashy. While the Saints signed a lightning bolt in a bottle named Darren Sproles the Dolphins are left with their leftovers Reggie Bush.

I am not going to point the blame on Reggie because although he hasn’t been that affected he has hardly been used and he has definitely not been put in the right situations that feature his strengths.
Come on Daboll; figure out a way to use this guy better.
2) Teach the linebackers to cover
Mike Nolan led this team to the 6th best defense in the NFL last year and for some reason they have fallen off the deep end this year. One of the biggest faults in Miami for years now has been the lack of ability to cover opposing teams TE’s. I don’t care what it takes but defensive guru Nolan and new linebackers coach Brain Cox needs to teach these linebackers how to improve their coverage skills.
3) Go to church or synagogue or wherever it is you go, but start praying for a miracle
For the Jews out there celebrating the Holidays…Shana Tova and meaningful fast...That includes you Igor and Sage!
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE
SUCK FOR LUCK !!

It’s now official according to NFL.com reporter Jeff Ireland; Chad Henne will miss the remainder of the NFL season to have shoulder surgey.
Just like Chad Pennington, at the hand of the San Diego Chargers defense Chad Henne has suffered a season ending injury. Henne’s last game as a Dolphins starting QB like Pennington might have been against the Chargers.
The Dolphins have already started their search for a backup but have come up short so far.
I defiantly feel for Chad who tried to battle back this year and make a name for himself. This will be tough on Chad as he tried very hard this offseason to build his leadership skills and prove the haters wrong. With this injury, the Dolphins probably move at the top of the list for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
no commentsThere are reports going around Dolphins nation that Chad Henne might be out for the season after hearing that he might require surgery for his shoulder.Things certainly have not gone as planned down in South Florida and now you can add Chad Henne’s injury to the list.
Whether it’s the entire season or just a long period of time, it certainly seems like Henne will be out a decent amount of time.
For those of you on the #SuckForLuck bus this is potentially very solid news for you as surely you can’t think that Matt Moore is going to rise this Dolphins team from the dead. Matt Moore also already led one team to the first overall pick before.
With this new injury to Henne, apparently the Dolphins are already searching for a vet QB to come in and maybe change things up. Apparently the Dolphins pursued Jake Delhomme who had no interest in joining Miami, as well as David Garrard who wasn’t interested due to the money he was offered.
ESPN's Adam Schefter says David Garrard was ready to sign with the Dolphins for $1 million. But MIA wouldn't budge off the vet's minimum.
A lot of people are speculating the Dolphins might revisit the Garrard option if Henne is out for the season.
I am pleading the Dolphins organization please do not sign another stop gap QB. Quick fixes have got Miami nowhere. We have been looking for a QB for 12 years; this year needs to be played out. An older veteran is not the solution.
Week 4 is officially over and the Dolphins are about to into their bye week 0-4. Not much reason for confidence in South Florida and the Suck 4 Luck talk is starting to get very loud.

If you’re a not of #Suck4Luck well then you can go with #Lose4Landry or #Breakdown4Barkley!
Not many thought we would be here at the beginning of the season but the Dolphins are a legit player in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. The Dolphins sit at 0-4 along with the Colts, Vikings, and Rams and then more competition comes from KC and Seattle at 1-3. Realistically the Rams would not go Luck at 1 with Bradford and the Colts showed some encouraging signs Monday Night that they won’t be beyond awful.
So Dolfans are given the options give it all we got every game or hope to Suck 4 Luck. Andrew Luck is the type of Quarterback that only comes around once every 15 years if that. Some have said Luck is the best QB prospect to come out of college since Peyton Manning.
Look at the Colts, with Peyton a potential Super Bowl contender, we can only hope Luck would do the same for us.
So do you hope for the best and a competitive Dolphins team with a 6-10 record and a middle of the road pick or the number 1 or 2 pick and potentially a Quarterback that can potentially save the franchise?
And btw, If your wondering, is Luck really that good ?? The answers yes ! Luck threw for 3338 yards last year with 32 TD's and only 8 INTS. This year he has already thrown for over 1000 yards 11 TD's and just 1 INT. Not to mention he team is a perfect 4-0 !
Seems like a no brainer to me! Oh and hey, if we mess up, it's not like Landry Jones is so bad either !
The buzz is going around the NFL that its only a matter of time until Tony Sparano will be fired. Many Dolphins thought that Sparano being let go would happen immediately after the Dolphins loss to the Chargers but that would require Steve Ross and the Dolphins organization to work logically and we all know that’s not happening.
According to a wide variety of sources including ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/
Since winning the division Tony’s record is a lacklustre 14-22 and has failed to get the Dolphins a winning record.
If you have had the bad omen of being forced to watch a Dolphins game, you’ll realize that no team in the NFL is more boring to watch then Sparano’s Dolphins. Although Sparano seems to be a motivating characters as most confuse him with mob boss Tony Soprano, yet Tony has failed to get his team prepared to play on a weekly basis.
Being a die hard Dolphins fan myself, it’s obvious to see Tony Sparano’s biggest weakness. Tony would rather get a field goal and 3 points then roll the dice and go for 7.
In the modern day NFL you simply don’t win games by getting 3 instead of 7.
The Dolphins moved Sparano’s press conference for the day until tomorrow but I wouldn’t read to much into that. Steven Ross is trying to create the best NFL fan experience and create a buzz in Miami and he is going to run out of patience with Sparano.
For Dolphins fans that want consoling, every game Sparano coaches is a game closer to Andrew Luck, so don’t sweat it!
