It’s only right. One of the greatest players in franchise history couldn’t have went out a Jet. That right, Jason Taylor has agreed to come back home, announcing on his Facebook page that he’ll once again be a Miami Dolphin.

Not only does this put a smile on the faces of the fans who loved JT and can now openly embrace him as a Dolphin once again, this makes plenty of sense on the football field too. Yes, even at 36 years old.

The Dolphins are poised for great things on the defensive side of the ball, but a second pass rusher to take some of the pressure off of Cameron Wake on passing situations would be a welcomed luxury. Jason Taylor, even an old Jason Taylor, instantly becomes the second best pass rusher on this roster.

And this isn’t an indictment on Koa Misi, either. Misi figures to be a fine early down player for the Dolphins. He’s a high motor guy that began to set the edge adequately as a rookie. But he’s not a true pass rusher. JT is, and at this stage of his career, getting plugged in for situational purposes is the best case scenario for the future Hall of Famer.

Bottom line, everyone is a winner with this move. Jason Taylor comes home and restores his legacy, the Dolphins get a needed pass rusher, and the fans get one of their heroes back. Welcome home JT!

 

The Dallas pipeline just keeps pumping out signings for the Dolphins. This regime has once again turned to one of their former Cowboys, coming to terms with tackle Marc Colombo.

Colombo has been the Cowboys’ starting right tackle since 2006. It’s not immediately known if he’s been added to the mix to compete with Vernon Carey or possibly to move to the left side while Jake Long is on the PUP list.

Sparano weighed in to the media a short while ago, saying “He's big, tough, smart. Started about 72 games down there. My vision for him is see where we are in the tackle mix.”

While Colombo certainly adds experience and could potentially save the Dolphins some cash if Vernon Carey now becomes expendable, he’s 32 years old and was rumored to be slipping some a year ago.

With Shaun O’Hara visiting the Dolphins today, and expected to sign by many, Ireland is clearly going with a short-term patch work approach to solve this line’s deficiencies.

The preferred way to build an offensive line, in my opinion, is through the draft or at least free agents with a bright horizon. This type of move doesn’t bode well for the future, but I guess it’s easy to see why Sparano and Ireland are focusing so much on the present considering their jobs are on the line.

Only a couple of days ago I urged fans not to worry because there was plenty of fun left, and plenty of big names left to be signed. Now it’s the first day of August and while there are some names still available the frenzy is coming to an end. That being said let’s take a look at some of the names that ARE still available.

The roster is starting to fill itself out as training camp is now fully underway. Miami added Reggie Bush, the electric RB/WR/KR/PR, and ILB Kevin Burnett. Two pretty high profile moves which should lead to an upgrade on both offense and defense. The Dolphins have also added a little depth at LB and NT.

Personally, I believe this defense, which was already ranked around top 10 in every category last year, is completely set. This Dolphins defense is 100% playoff ready, and it would be hard to debate otherwise. Not only are they talented, but they are also young. Therefore, if the Dolphins were to add another piece this offseason you would have to assume it would be on offense.

Tony Sparano has already indicated that the Dolphins are in the market for an offensive guard. However, I like some needy fans would prefer the Dolphins to go after a playmaker. Half the battle to getting your offensive line to work is making it gel. I think that although this offensive line struggled last year, it’s still a very talented unit.  Shaun O’Hara, a veteran center formally of the Giants, has already been rumored to be visiting the Dolphins.
