Davone Bess most likely on his way out of Miami

Written by Daniel Eliesen on .

Hard working, classy, reliable...all traits associated with Miami Dolphins WR Davone Bess. The undrafted free agent wide receiver from Hawii is rumored to be on his way out from Miami. Davone Bess a fan favorite had been rumored all summer to be a possible trade target and as the draft approaches us tomorrow nigh it appears it might now be a reality.

Below are a couple of tweets on the situation

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington1h

I'd caution that the situation is very fluid, but I don't currently believe Dolphins will trade Bess until after they've made first-rd pick.

Yes, the Dolphins have begun actively shopping Davone Bess. And yes, it's part of an offseason plan they've debated for more than a month.

Tony Pauline ‏@TonyPauline2h

Sources tell me 99.9% receiver Davone Bess from Miami to Cleveland Browns for mid round picks.

Adam Beasley ‏@AdamHBeasley2h

Davone Bess is indeed on the trade block, and multiple teams have interest. At this point, it would be more of a surprise if he isn't moved.

Davone Bess has been one of few recent success stories of this organization as has come to work and competed day in and day out for this team. In his 5 years in Miami Bess caught 321 balls and scored 12 touchdowns. Bess had over 50 receptions in each of his seasons in Miami including  a career high 79 receptions in 2010.

I had the pleasure of both meeting and interviewing Davone Bess and can say the Dolphins would truly be letting go one of the best guys this lock room has had in years. That being said Bess had one year left on his contract and with Brandon Gibson and Mike Wallace being brought in and the idea of drafting a quicker playmaker is simply a better fit for this team to move forward.

If Davone Bess is traded that would make him the 7th started from 2012 roster which the team has moved on from.

While many won't be able to come to terms to saying it despite the fact that Davone Bess will be sorely missed for this team it most likely is for the best.

Who is in play for the Dolphins with the 12th pick?

Written by Daniel Monardo on .

The 2013 NFL Draft is less than 24 hours away and we are still left seraching for answers as to what direction the Miami Dolphins will go with the 12th overall pick. Unlike the previous two drafts, there is no clear first round target for the Dolphins as they have addressed two of their most prominent needs in the past year; quarterback and wide reciever. The 2012 selection of Ryan Tannehill and the 2011 selection of Mike Pouncey came as a surprise to no one, however this will not be the case come draft day. This year, there is no clear consensus pick and fans and media alike can't seem to agree on which prospect will dawn the new logo tomorrow. There are five positions of need that the 12th pick will likely be used to address - offensive tackle, offensive guard, cornerback, defensive end, or tight end - and numerous players the team is interested in.

Assuming the Dolphins don't trade up or down in the first round, here is my attempt at narrowing down their options with the 12th overall pick. Keep in mind that only prospects with a chance to fall to Miami will be included.

Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame

The Dolphins signed Dustin Keller to a one year contract in the free agency, however the selection of Tyler Eifert would give the team a long term upgrade at the position if Keller does not re-sign and a dynamic combination if he does. Eifert is by far the best tight end in this draft class as he excels in the passing game and in the red zone due to his fluid pass catching skills and hand-eye cordination. The one negative against him is his below average run blocking but there is potential to improve in this aspect.

Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina

This is early for a guard however Cooper is one of the safest picks in this draft and the Dolphins can use an upgrade at guard over John Jerry. Cooper is a versatile and athletic prospect that would be a perfect fit in the Dolphins blocking scheme. His most evident weakness is bulk, which should continue to improve, and is height is average for the position. This selection adds another long term piece on the offensive line along with Mike Pouncey and potentially Jonathan Martin if meets expectations this season.

Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama

Milliner is viewed by many as the best cornerback in the draft and he will likely be the first defensive back off the board however there is a chance that Milliner will be available when the Dolphins are on the clock. Despite signing Brent Grimes, cornerback is one of the Dolphins biggest needs and selecting a player of Milliner's calibre would have an immediate impact. He can make plays in the air and force turnovers, something that the Dolphins have lacked in recent years.

D.J Fluker, OT, Alabama

The Dolphins have interest in Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, and Lane Johnson but they will be long gone by the time the 12th pick comes around. Offensive line is a huge position of need for the Dolphins and their top priority should be to protect the quarterback. Fluker is great in the run game and instantly makes the offensive line better while giving Miami the option to use Jonathan Martin at right tackle instead of left. This pick is only an option if the Dolphins don't trade for Brandon Albert.

Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia

Austin is one of the most explosive yet one of the most intriguing players in this draft. The Dolphins spent a lot of money on the wide reciever position in free agency however the front office has made it clear that they want a dynamic offense in 2013. Tavon Austin accomplishes just that while working out of the slot. Davone Bess, who currently fills that role on the roster, is a likely candidate to be traded on draft day. This would be more of a luxury pick or selecting the best player available rather than drafting for need.

New Dolphins uniforms leaked

Written by Daniel Monardo on .

The Miami Dolphins had originally planned to reveal their new uniforms on the first day of the NFL draft this Thursday, however similiar to the logo, the jerseys were leaked on twitter. It appears as though the Dolphins uniforms were revealed accidently during the Jaguars unvieling of their new jerseys for the upcoming season.

The two uniform combinations for the Dolphins this season will be aqua and white jerseys, both with white pants. There is evidently less orange than in previous years and the team will not feature an alternate orange jersey this season. An all aqua combination will not be used either.

Following the leak, the overall perception of unbiased national media has been quite positive. The simple approach makes the jersey's look sharp and clean with sleek adjustments made to the font of the numbers. The new all white face masks and helmets are also on display.

5 big questions for the Dolphins heading into the draft

Written by Daniel Eliesen on .

It is officially NFL draft week! Thursday is right around the corner and the Dolphins will soon be finding out which new young talent will be helping this roster hopefully develop into a potential contender.  You’ve got the NFL draft, you got the NHL and NBA playoffs…it’s a wonderful time to be a sports fans.

Throughout the offseason we have highlighted and looked into several draft options for the Phins including our three round mock draft post. While we have done a mini deep dive into some of the draft prospects here are the 5 most interesting storylines Dolphins fans should pay attention to for this week’s draft.

1)      Who will replace Jake Long?

The Dolphins currently have one of the weakest pairs of starting tackles in the league. Jonathan Martin is a young player who hopefully can develop but currently can’t be trusted to keep Ryan Tannehill healthy.

The Dolphins will most likely go one of 2 directions this week/weekend.

i.                     Option 1: Trade for KC Chiefs OT Branden Albert. Most likely would accompany compensation of a 2nd round draft pick and a fat contract.

ii.                   Option 2: Drafting an OT with one of the Phins top 3 picks, even potentially trading up for top draft prospect Eric Fisher.

2)      What will the Dolphins do at 12?

There are many different routes the Dolphins can chose here however it is widely believed it is down to 3 potential options.  That being said there are endless possibilities:

i.                     TE Tyler Eifert

ii.                    WR Tavon Austin

iii.                   Best DE ( Carradine, Werner,  Ansah ) on the board

3)      What will the Dolphins do with the running back position?

Are they satisfied enough with Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas? Buzz was created earlier this offseason that the front office doesn’t really trust Daniel Thomas but who really knows. I would keep my eyes open with one of the Dolphins two 3rd round picks as there are several backs that might fall into the Dolphins lap.

4)      When do the Dolphins address their need at CB?

There is plenty of debate out there on when the Dolphins should be looking for a CB. Many people believe they should be waiting until the later rounds while others are demanding to trade up for Dee Milliner. Desmond Trufant is another player who has caught the eyes of many.

5)      Are the Dolphins done at WR?

Stedman Bailey, Terrence Williams, Robert Woods…the list goes on, do the Dolphins feel they have addressed the position enough or are they looking to add even more weapons.

It should certainly be an exciting week.

Miami Dolphins 2013 schedule

Written by Daniel Monardo on .

With the release of the 2013 NFL schedule, we are one step closer to a very important season for the Miami Dolphins that should answer several questions about the team. Will Ryan Tannehill emerge as a top tier quarterback? Will the Dolphins offseason additions pay off? Will Miami be successful enough to save General Manager Jeff Ireland's job? The answers to these questions remain mysteries however what is known are the opponents the Dolphins will play against in the season that marks the 40th anniversary of the team's last Super Bowl victory.
